Thanks to the the riders and volunteers who rode, helped out, and showed their support for the MS Cape Cod Getaway this past Saturday, June 26. Mary, Jim, Al, and Mark W completed the 100 mile ride from Quincy to Bourne, their perseverance was a great inspiration. Mary and Al even did a slight detour from the race route in Scituate to visit Hannah and Joann. Some dehydration, bruises, and lots of sweating (except for Mary - the boys called her the bionic woman) occured but there were no serious injuries. Along the route Mary was given the nickname of "Upright Girl" because her bike was a hybrid with straight handlebars and almost everyone else was riding a racing bike. Al completed the race even though he hadn't been on a bike in years. Mark had a small cramp in Halifax but after eating bananas to increase his potassium levels he jumped on his bike and finished with everyone else. Jim, the biking veteran helped everyone offering encouragement and suggestions. Great job!
Peggy, Jim D, Lynn, Amy, Pete, Jen, Kelly, and I volunteered at various stations during the day. We helped out all the tired riders showing extra TLC for the Reale Riders as they came through the rest stops.
Eleanor came to Mass Maritime to show her support and Ken came with beer in tow for the thirsty riders and volunteers. Thanks to all of you!
We were all part of Team Reale Riders, hopefully starting a yearly event. The Reale Riders raised nearly $4,000, thanks to all our family and friends.
On a personal note - I truly appreciate the love and support of my family.
